Ph.D. Position on Engineered Photonic Quantum Devices

Future advances towards a user-friendly and cost-effective exploitation of quantum technologies rely on the development of compact and integrated photonic devices. This will be a key task of the project “UNIQORN – Affordable Quantum Communication for Everyone: Revolutionizing the Quantum Ecosystem from Fabrication to Application”, a European Quantum Technology Flagship project to be started in October 2018.   UNIQORN’s mission is to provide the enabling photonic technology to accommodate quantum communications.  Replacing meter-size lab experiments by millimeter-size chips will pave the way towards practical applications. These systems will not only reduce size and cost, but will also bring improvements in terms of robustness and reproducibility.

Our group participates to the project with the development of active nonlinear waveguide components in LiNbO3 and – together with project partners – a hybrid integration of these components to system-on-chip devices ready for real world applications.    This includes the specific design of integrated circuits and the fabrication and characterization of their performance.

We are looking for a Ph.D. candidate to work in the interesting field at the interface between advanced technologies and fundamental quantum science.
