Highlighted in Nature Materials: On the right spot

In a joint research effort between the groups of Prof. Wieck, Ruhr-University of Bochum, Prof. Zrenner, UPB, and our group, the intentional positioning of an individual quantum dot on a predefined location has been achieved. The so positioned quantum dots have been embedded in a p-i-n junction device, allowing for electrical carrier injection into the dot. Using electroluminescence spectroscopy, it was shown that these dots retain the full spectroscopic signature, including individual excitonic states and their shell structure.
