New Publication: Jitter in photon-number-resolved detection

Our group has collaborated with Dr. Mariia Sidorova and the Integrated Quantum Optics Group on a new publication in the journal "APL Photonics". The paper by Dr. Mariia Sidorova and Timon Schapeler analyzes the physics of multi-photon absorption in superconducting nanowire single-photon detectors (SNSPDs) and provides a physical model for photon-number dependent jitter mechanisms in the detection process. These findings are important, e.g., for photon-number-resolving detector design and low-jitter applications, such as light detection and ranging (LIDAR).

The open access publication can be found here.

Arrival-time histograms of the rising edge of SNSPDs traces for different mean photon numbers. Underlying peaks correspond to different photon numbers (rightmost peaks: one-photon peaks)
