The Sino-German Frontiers of Science Symposia (SINOGFOS) are a series of interdisciplinary conferences co-organised by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation and the Chinese Academy of Sciences. The annual meetings take place alternately in China and Germany. Funding on the German side is provided by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research. The sixth Sino-German Frontiers of Science Symposium will be held in Merseburg, Germany, from 23 to 26 May 2013.
Based on the concept of the Frontiers of Research Programme, 54 outstanding young scientists (27 each from Germany and China) from various fields of the natural sciences are invited to the three-day symposium to discuss the challenges in their disciplines and the limitations to progress at the frontiers of their respective fields. During the conference, nine Chinese and nine German scientists will present their current research to a scientifically diverse audience and explain the significance of their work within the broader context of their own and other researchers’ fields. Participants are encouraged to exchange knowledge and to initiate new discussions that transcend the boundaries of their disciplines.
