The physicist Prof. Dr. Thomas Zentgraf is elected as the new chairman of the central scientific institution Center for Optoelectronics & Photonics Paderborn (CeOPP). He succeeds Professor Artur Zrenner (Department of Physics), who has supported this position since the CeOPP was founded in 2006 and who will take his well-deserved retirement next year.
In the “Optoelectronics and Photonics” profile area, the University of Paderborn has focused its research on the physical principles and applications of optical technologies for several years. Innovative concepts from quantum optics, coherent optics, ultra-fast nano-optics, and optoelectronics are in the focus of recent developments. The aim is to establish new information technologies based on nonlinear light-matter interaction and quantum effects. With the establishment of CeOPP in 2006, the university sent a clear signal for the expansion of the promising research areas of optoelectronics and photonics. The CeOPP consists of over 20 research groups from the Chemistry and Physics Departments and the Institute for Electrical Engineering and Information Technology, as well as several associated external members. The interdisciplinary cooperation in the profile area “Optoelectronics and Photonics” is also funded by a collaborative research center (TRR142) of the German Research Foundation (DFG).
