The Student Council of the Department of Physics at Paderborn University awarded Prof. Dr. Thomas Zentgraf, head of the ‘Ultraspeed Nanophotonics’ research group, the ‘Golden Chalk’ prize for the best class in 2012/2013. The prize is awarded annually by the Physics Students’ Association to the lecturer who receives the highest ratings from students in the class evaluations.

Philip Heringlake, 2nd Chair of the Student Council, said during the award ceremony: “In their evaluations, students particularly praised Prof. Dr Zentgraf’s ability to explain difficult topics in an engaging way and to present the subject matter clearly.” Thomas Zentgraf was honoured for his ‘export lectures’ and his lectures on laser physics. “I am particularly pleased that, for the first time, a lecturer has been recognised for lectures that make the subject of Physics accessible to students from related disciplines such as chemical engineering,” said the award winner.
