A lecture by climate researcher and meteorologist Mojib Latif from Kiel on ‘Global Warming: Fact or Fiction? What measurements and models reveal about our climate’

The internationally renowned climate researcher and meteorologist Mojib Latif from the Leibniz Institute for Marine Sciences IFM-GEOMAR in Kiel accepted our invitation to speak as a guest at the Physics Colloquium on 15 December 2011. The event took place in the new Lecture Theatre Block L (Südring, on the corner of Pohlweg), and the public was also invited to attend.

The researcher, well known for his numerous television appearances, was a co-author of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) reports in 2001 and 2007, which form the scientific basis for many climate-related policy decisions. Professor Latif’s lecture provided an up-to-date overview of the current state of climate research. Starting from observable climate changes, he sought to answer the question of how reliably the climate can be predicted over longer time scales and what shortcomings climate models have – along with all the implications for the environmental protection measures that need to be derived from them.

We would like to thank Prof. Latif for his interesting lecture.
