Es steht unter dem Motto „Licht für Wandel“ und soll an die Bedeutung von Licht als elementare Lebensvoraussetzung erinnern sowie den gesellschaftlichen Nutzen der wissenschaftlichen Erkenntnisse über das Licht, z. B. in der Medizin oder im Bereich Kommunikation, ins Bewusstsein rücken.
