Perovskite nanocrystals

Perovskitic cesium lead halides are semiconductors with direct band gap in the visible range attracting interest as a new solar cell material.

By means of an ionic metathesis of lead bromide and cesium oleate, we synthesise cubic CsPbBr3 nanocrystals with edge lengths of 5-10 nm.

The perovskites are characterized by transmission electron microscopy and electron diffraction along with energy dispersive X-ray analysis. The perovskitic lattice structure of the observed nanoparticles is examined by electron diffraction. We investigate the stability of the nanocrystal suspensions by photoluminescence spectroscopy.

Deposited onto surfaces, the nanocrystals arrange themselves in close-packed layers, where the self-organization behavior is influenced by an organic oleate shell covering the nanocrystals.
