Photo (Uni Paderborn, Department of Physics): Front v. l .: Leonard Giller and Merle Hüllmann took part in lectures given by physicist Prof. Dr. Thomas Zentgraf (center back). They got to know, among other things, the so-called Pohl wheel and bicycle tires to demonstrate physical effects.
Since February 2020, Dr. Sergey Kruk from the Australian National University is workingin the group of Prof. Thomas Zentgraf at the University of Paderborn in the field of non-reciprocal nano-optics.
During a visit with our project partner Prof. Huang at the Beijing Institute of Technology in Beijing (China) we discussed the properties of nonlinear metasurfaces during a seminar. The exchange is financially supported by the DFG and the NSFC.
Every year the Scientific American publishes the “The Top 10 Emerging Technologies” of the year. This year the, the research on metalenses is among these emerging technologies. For several years, our group is studying these new kinds of lenses that have only the thickness of a fraction of a human hair and several interesting properties.
Paderborn University and the Beijing Institute of Technology are collaborating in the field of optical technologies for the development of nanophotonic elements.
After a one year research stay in our group Bingyi Liu is leaving us for finishing his PhD at Harbin Institute of Technology in China. We wish him a successful graduation.
In a public evening lecture, Prof. Schmid and Prof. Zentgraf explained the significance of the research carried out by the 2018 Nobel Prize winners in Physics in the field of laser physics.
Clarivate Analytics, known for their internet platform Web-of-Science, announces the Highly Cited Researchers List 2018, a list of elite scientists and social scientists identified through analysis of highly cited papers. In the category "Cross-Fields" Professor Zentgraf is listed as one of the most cited researchers.
At this years Commencement Ceremony, Daniel Frese, Rene Geromel and Felicitas Walter received their certificates. We like to congratulate all three group members and wish them still much success for their future career.
We welcome our new guests Tianyou Li (Beijing Institute of Technology) and Teanchai Chantakit (Kasetsart University) and wish them a pleasent stay at UPB.
Dr. Sergey Kruk from the Australian National University is visiting our group in Paderborn. He will join our reseach on optical metasurfaces for a period of three weeks.
The University Society awarded the prize for the best Master Thesis in the subject Natural Science and Engineering to Philip Georgi. The prize was handed over at the New Years reception of the University Paderborn.
