International Master Programs

The Department of Physics of Paderborn University offers three interesting Master Programs with different focuses, all oriented towards current research. The international master program in Physics provides a general, reserach-oriented education that allows different specializations. Optoelectronics & Photonics combines topics from physics and electrical engineering in the field of optical technologies and Material Science combines topics from physics, chemistry and process engineering to process materials for new applications.

„Welcome to Paderborn University! It is very important to us that you feel comfortable here, get all the information you need and have a successful time at the university!”

Dr. Sascha Hohmann,
Representative for International Affairs of the Physics Department

Academic Requirements

(see details on the pages of the different programs)

Bachelor's degree in physics (or equivalent)

The applicant's final grade should be at least 3.0 (according to the German grading system, a GRE may be required).

Language Requirements

Applicants must provide proof of their English skills:

Cambridge English Certificate: Advanced (CAE) or Proficiency (CPE) or

TOEFL 550 (paper-based) or 79 (Internet-based) or equivalent (e.g., IELTS 6.0).

Applicants holding a Bachelor's degree from an institution in Australia, Great Britain, Ireland, Canada, New Zealand, or the USA do not have to provide proof of their English skills. An English-language Bachelor's degree from another country is not enough!

Application for international Students

If you are not a citizen from the European Union, you have to apply via Uni-Assist for the Master's programs (you can find details here).

Please consider that you documents have to be ready on time, otherwise you cannot apply for this semester:

Winter semester (October until March):
