Teaching innovations and further development of courses

We are continuously developing the courses in the Department of Physics together with lecturers and students. The aim is to give our students the best possible start to their degree programme. To this end, we combine the specialist expertise of the physicists and their experience with our higher education in physics expertise. We primarily focus on identifying challenging areas in the introductory phase of studies, providing suitable methods for customised intervention and evaluating their success.

Changes to the exercises

In the preparatory course for prospective physicists and in the courses Experimental Physics A and B, we have implemented and evaluated a more open exercise format together with the lecturers. The aim is to involve the students more actively in the exercise groups, provide individualised assistance and strengthen cooperative work.

Systematic study support

We have implemented systematic support for students in the introductory phase of their studies by installing the Leader of the Physiktreff as a central contact person. Students meet the contact person during the preparatory course and the orientation week and receive an introduction to studying.

Development of self-learning materials

Based on a wide range of evaluation results from previous years, digital self-study materials are being developed, implemented and evaluated for the courses Experimental Physics A and Theoretical Physics A as part of the third-party funded cooperation project DigiSelF.

Supporting teachers in the process of further developing their own teaching

The offer of (didactic) support for the process of further developing one's own teaching is aimed at all lecturers in the Department of Physics. The support includes input and joint work from the first joint exchange to identify possible adjustments to the final evaluation of further developments.
