Physics summer camp at the University of Paderborn

Have you ever thought about studying and are considering becoming a physicist? Are you not really sure yet?

What do physicists actually do, where do you work later and how does the study course work?

We will answer these and other questions for you in our summer camp.

The concept

You delve into the typical everyday life of a student: you hear your first physics lecture and learn how to revise the material in a study group. You deal with physical questions, get to know professors and lecturers and can ask questions about the study course. You stay as a group in the youth hostel, meet other students and explore the campus and city. Another highlight is a visit to a typical physicist's workplace: the research laboratories of the technology company Infineon in Warstein.

The facts
  • 4 days from Monday June 22nd to Thursday June 25th, 2020
  • maximum of 30 participants
  • at the University of Paderborn
  • 3 nights in the Paderborn youth hostel
  • Participation fee 65 €
  • Application deadline is March 6, 2020
  • The summer camp physics is held in German!
The timetable

You can see what awaits you in detail with us in the following "timetable" (there are of course sufficient breaks between the individual events):

The summer camp physics is held in German!

The goal: physicist

The Department of Physics at the University of Paderborn trains physicists and thus ensures qualified young scientists and researchers. But physicists are more than just basic researchers at the university. Studied phyicists can be found in many places at work where you would not have expected them. This means that not only the development laboratories of the high-tech industry, from chip manufacturers and automobile manufacturers to aerospace, are open to them, but also other sectors such as insurance companies, banks and management consultancies. We will explain to you exactly what this is all about during the summer camp.

Physics in Paderborn

Physics at the University of Paderborn is a rather small department. The lecture halls are not overcrowded, the doors of the professors are always open and everyone knows everyone here - in short: the support ratio is first class here. This assessment was confirmed by the current CHE ranking. Among other things Paderborn physics occupies a top position in the ranking for the entry-level phase and on-site support.

University of Paderborn

Around 20,000 young people study and research in various study courses at the University of Paderborn. We are characterized by short distances: We are a campus university, i.e. all buildings are in one place. A crossing of the city in wind and weather, e.g. for moving from the math to the physics building is unnecessary. Instead, the students use the beautiful green areas in front of the buildings to take a sunbath. That's how you like to study :-)

City of Paderborn

Paderborn is a "small" city with around 150,000 inhabitants, the shortest river in Germany and a varied past. You can find more information here: Paderborn.de
